Michael Joseph Jackson better known as Michael Jackson was an American singer-songwriter, dancer, businessman and philanthropist. He is also known as King of Pop. He was born on August 29, 1958, Gary, Indiana, United States. He was the son of Katherine Esther Scruse and Joseph Walter “Joe” Jackson. He was the eighth of ten children. He began his solo career in 1971 and in the early 1980s he became the dominant figure in popular music. He released his first album Got to Be There in 1972. He has been inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame twice. He has won hundreds of awards, making him the most-awarded recording artist in the history of popular music. During his successful career he earned about $750 million. He died of acute propofol and benzodiazepine intoxication on June 25, 2009 after suffering from cardiac arrest. His death triggered a global outpouring of grief and a live broadcast of his public memorial service was viewed around the world.
